San Juan is my favorite Caribbean port: I never get tired of going to La Bombonera for mallorcas and coffee, people-watching, finding an old building or two to paint, then getting a beer at the Old Harbor Brewery. We’re on the island of St. Croix today, of which I’ve seen approximately five blocks. There’s a beautiful waterfront walkway, and a few places for food and internet (those crew-priorities). Whenever my friends and I stray from the pier area, we get catcalls. Well, let me clarify: Last week my friend and I got four catcalls, and one guy with dreadlocks calling after us, “You think this is paradise, but it isn’t!” This week (different friend), I guess we looked especially “gay,” cause instead of propositions we got an obscene gesture through the rusty window of a passing truck.
