I started this comic in Brooklyn, at the desk between my uncle’s computer and my aunt’s collage table. When I showed a draft to my uncle, he remembered the exhibit (Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez), and pulled up this painting without missing a beat.

I don’t know what was weirder, recognizing the painting, or realizing that the caption above my head would read “20 years later”!
